billSplitr moved to ActiveState Workspace

Postby Sam on Wed Jul 01, 2009 10:26 am

ActiveState, the authors of Komodo, have been bugging me for the couple of months to try out their new product 'WorkSpace', which is basically just a project management system (Very boring really).

Anyway, I've decided to move BillSplitr's code there to give it a shot, and maybe even help promote development.

The public project is available here: http://workspace.activestate.com/projec ... /WikiStart

The public project is available here: http://code.sifnt.net.au/billsplitr

For svn write access, just ask :).

I notice your mirror system has had an interesting effect on google's rankings for sifnt... :P

Also you should get billsplitr higher up the rank! :) What else needs doing on it before you release it as public beta?

Haha, I think I see what you mean. That's not the mirror system though (The mirror system is only for files), that's just Google indexing the site of domains that it shouldn't (And in at least one case, no longer exist).

That's actually precisely why I've become much stricter with my virtual hosts with the rebuilt of flexo, only a single CNAME will go to an individual site now, all others are either permanent redirects (HTTP 301 Moved Permanently) to sifnt.net.au (E.g. http://sifnt.com.au) or placeholder pages (E.g. http://flexo.sifnt.net.au/)

Google attributes it's rank to the final redirect in the case of a 'HTTP 301 Moved Permanently' and obviously placeholder pages to link to much ;).

I'd say those weird domain names will gradually disappear from Google's results :).

Yeah you got it. Also what I mean is that billsplitr is the top when you search for that precise term, but "bill splitter" or other similar searches that people actually looking to find a bill sharing system would use will not give you that link in probably the first 100 pages.

I'm sure that will change if it gets finished and people start linking to it. All it needs to do is be popular on Digg and it'll move up the list pretty quick.

It would also help if some of those words actually existed on the website ;).

Code Tracking and SVN has been moved to code.sifnt.net.au, this will hopefully be the last change for a while. Development will be beginning again very shortly.

Read: I worked out how to install Trac since I moved it to ActiveState Firefly in the first place ;)
